For decades Iolcos Hellenic Maritime Enterprises provides quality, professional and profitable ocean-transportation services to its clients throughout the world, having managed more than 50 seagoing bulk carrier vessels of all sizes.
Iolcos Hellenic Maritime Enterprises was founded in 1982, and in 1983 it acquired its first vessel: The 14,118 dwt MV Brave Themis. By the end of the 1980s the company was managing five ships.After effective operation of its ships, as well as a series of successful transactions in the field of sale and purchase, the end of the 1990s found Iolcos Hellenic Maritime Enterprises having 13 ships under management, all Dry Bulk Carriers, making it one of the up-and-coming key players in the Greek shipping world.
The result of this success has lead to its global expansion and shortly after the turn of the century, Iolcos Hellenic Maritime Enterprises entered the field of newbuildings, by ordering a series of four ships at Hudong..
The 2010s found the Iolcos group Iolcos having contracted the building of a total of 18 ships, an aggregate investment of more than $650 million.
Today, Iolcos Hellenic Maritime Enterprises Co. Ltd., is the core unit of the Iolcos Group of Companies, managing 16 panamax and post-panamax bulk carrier vessels.

Greek Shipping
Shipping is Greece’s most important industry with a worth of $9 billion in 2017, which reflects 4% of Greece's GDP. When you add to this figure all the shipping-related businesses, this number jumps to $17 billion which represents 7.5% of the country’s GDP. Greek maritime is an employment lifeline which provides employment to about 200,000 people (approximately 4% of Greece’s entire workforce).
For a great number of years the Greek-owned merchant fleet has been the world’s largest, controlling more than 16% of the global ocean-going transportation and 40% of the European Union’s merchant fleet. Greece ranks number one both in tankers and dry bulk carriers. It is worth mentioning that Greek tankers carry 60% of China’s oil imports, while its bulkers are responsible for transporting 50% (!!!) of China’s exports to the rest of the word.
